My mission
I’m a woodcarving artist based in the Netherlands, specializing in wooden heraldry, including coats of arms, family crests, wooden ornaments and other traditional woodcarvings. Every piece is designed and carved with respect for the history and craftsmanship behind it.
I work with carefully selected hardwoods and take my time with every detail. Whether it’s a coat of arms, a wooden ornament, or a completely custom carving, my goal is to create something that will last for generations
About me
Hello, my name is Olaf, I’m 25 years old and based in the Netherlands. I’m a woodcarving artist specializing in wooden heraldry, coats of arms, family crests, wooden ornaments and other traditional woodcarvings. I discovered my passion for woodworking when I was 19. What started as a simple hobby quickly grew into a real passion for traditional craftsmanship.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I spent a lot more time at home and started restoring old wooden furniture. Before long, I was carving my own pieces and taking on custom projects. Over the years, that hobby turned into OVB WOOD, where I now create custom woodcarvings for clients all over the world.
I graduated with a Master’s degree from the Technical University of Delft. Although my studies gave me a solid understanding of materials and engineering, woodworking has always been where my real passion lies. Today I combine that technical knowledge with traditional carving techniques to create pieces that are made to last for generations.
Every project is different. Some clients ask me to restore an old family coat of arms, while others come to me with an idea for a completely new carving or ornament. I enjoy working closely with my clients to create something personal that tells a story and will be appreciated for many years.
I’m based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where I work from my own fully equipped workshop. If you’re looking for a woodcarving artist in the Netherlands or you’re interested in seeing how my work is made, feel free to get in touch. You’re always welcome to visit the workshop and have a look around.
My core values
I craft each piece with the intention that it becomes a meaningful part of a family, company, personal, or organisational heritage. Every creation is designed to preserve stories, values, and memories, ensuring they can be cherished and passed down to future generations.
- Craftmanship
- Heritage focus
- Quality and honesty
- Client driven
My way of working
I combine traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques to create unique and lasting pieces. I use a CNC router to remove larger volumes of wood efficiently, then carefully refine each detail by hand using chisels, a small rotary tool, and sandpaper. Once the carving is complete, I finish it with high-quality organic oils and waxes, ensuring every piece is beautifully protected and durable enough to be enjoyed for generations.
As a woodcarving artist based in the Netherlands, I work on a commission basis, transforming each client’s ideas into unique artworks through my own creative vision and craftsmanship.
